Samung ATIV Tab 3: An 8.9mm Windows 8 tablet taking on the Surface Pro

The Samsung ATIV Tab 3 is the company's latest Windows 8-powered tablet hoping to steer you away from opting for the Microsoft Surface Pro.

The new model replaces the ATIV Tab 1 - there was no ATIV Tab 2, for some reason - and claims to be the worlds thinnest Windows 8 tablet (for the time being).

Sharing a similar design, look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy series, that thin claim is well founded; the ATIV Tab 3 is just 8.2 millimetres thick. To put that into perspective that's a lot thinner than the Surface Pro (it's 13.5mm). It's a lot lighter too, weighing 550 grams instead of 907 grams.

Sadly the beating elements stop there. The ATIV Tab 3 delivers a smaller, lower-resolution touchscreen display; 10.1-inches  (1366x768) to the Pro's 10.6-inch (1920x1080) display.

Inside and the specs include an Intel ATOM Z2760 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 64GB storage capacity. You'll also get a camera (720p HD) and 10 hours of promised battery life from a single charge. Connections include a micro USB, a micro SD slot for expanding the memory, and a micro HDMI slot for connecting it to a TV or monitor.

No word on availability or pricing other than that it will be available in the UK later this year.

We will keep you posted.
