Viacom has rebranded its MTV WatchWith app on Thursday and relaunched it with a major update that adds full episodes, on-demand video and a second-screen viewing experience.
Called simply MTV, the new app brings full episodes of Teen Wolf, Awkward, Teen Mom and more. Viacom also included access to retro shows like Beavis and Butthead, Daria and Laguna Beach.
Viacom further announced deals with nine cable providers to offer more full episodes, including: AT&T U-verse, Bright House Networks, Cablevision, DIRECTV, Hawaiian Telecom, RCN, Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS.
MTV app users will have to subscribe to the cable providers and sign-in to access full episodes. Viacom said it would also provide content from MTV News, MTV Style, MTV Geek, HTV Hive and HTV Other, as well as live coverage of the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Video Awards.
On-demand video and other exclusive content won't require users to sign in, because everything is available as sneak peeks, after shows, bonus clips, etc.
As for technical features in the update, Viacom has added second-screen capabilities and improved social media features. Viacom previously offered MTV WatchWith and VH1 Co-Star as second-screen apps, but it has now consolidated the functionality into one MTV app. Users can also connect their Twitter accounts and Facebook Chat.
According to The Verge, Viacom said the new MTV would "help strengthen the brand and connect fans wherever they are — as long as they are in the US".
