Following the launch of the Mac Pro in June we've now seen the desktop computer in the flesh, not behind glass at the Apple 22 October event. The Mac Pro will be available in December and cost $2999 or £2499. We will be getting one if for review nearer the time.

The Darth Vader of Pringles cans, an R2-D2 without legs, those are just two comments we overheard at WWDC when it came to describing Apple's new desktop computer, the Mac Pro.

Although not officially coming to an Apple store near you until later this year, Apple gave a sneak peek of its new desktop computer at this year's WWDC and Pocket-lint was in the audience to gawp at the new computer - behind glass sadly - after the keynote had finished.

One thing's for certain, the device doesn't look like your regular standard desktop computer, and has been designed to be very different to what you expect.

The reason for the design, says Apple, is that it has been created around a revolutionary unified thermal core which cools all that computing power.

That computing power includes next-generation Xeon processors, dual workstation-class GPUs, Thunderbolt 2, PCIe-based flash storage and ultra-fast ECC memory.

The 9.9-inch tall Mac Pro has a slide-off case and an array of connection ports around the back (if there is a back) letting you plug and play to your heart's content.

"The next-generation Mac Pro is the most expandable Mac ever built. With six Thunderbolt 2 ports that can deliver up to 20Gbps of bandwidth to each external device, Mac Pro is perfect for connecting to external storage, multiple PCI expansion chassis, audio and video breakout boxes, and the latest external displays, including 4K desktop displays. Each of the six Thunderbolt 2 ports supports up to six daisy-chained devices, giving you the ability to connect up to 36 high-performance peripherals. Thunderbolt 2 is completely backwards compatible with existing Thunderbolt peripherals, and allows you to transfer data between Macs faster and easier than ever," says Apple.

Powerful stuff, but for now we just get to look on and get all gooey.
