Gmail for Android update rolls out with tabs, slide-out navigation
Google update Gmail's desktop inbox with major user-interface changes recently, and now the celebrated features are available on the Gmail for Android app.
Android Police first reported on Monday that an updated Gmail for Android would begin to roll out soon with the new tabbed interface found on the desktop version and a slide-out navigation interface.
Google introduced the redesigned Gmail in May in an attempt to give users more organisational tools and control over their inbox. The revamped inbox actually leaked a week before, during a "Structure in Android App Development" presentation by the Android Design Team.
The new and improved Gmail for Android is now starting to appear in the Google Play store. According to the app's change log, the latest version of Gmail includes swipe to refresh and new coloured organisation, as well as reply, archive or delete notifications for Android 4.1 and up, faster online and offline search for Android 4.0 and up and new API labels for third-party app developers using Android 2.2 and up.
Google originally said the new inbox would roll out gradually and become available on desktop, Android and iOS "within the next few weeks", but eager Gmail users could get the Desktop look sooner by going to Configure inbox when it appeared in the Settings options.
