Asus Fonepad Note goes up against Samsung Galaxy Note II: 6-inch and stylus

Asus has unveiled a new version of the Fonepad it showed at Mobile World Congress, with sights clearly on the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The Asus FonePad Note is a 6-inch Android phone/phablet with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 (1080p) Super IPS+ display.

It runs on a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor, has 2GB of RAM, and is 3G (rather than 4G) ready. But it does include DC-HSPA+, so is capable of mobile data speeds of up to 42Mbps, as long as it's on a compatible network.

On the rear there is an 8-megapixel camera, with a 1.2-megapixel video-calling cam on the front. Like Samsung's rival devices, the Fonepad Note comes with a stylus, and Asus has included a number of dedicated applications to make good use of it.

Interestingly, there are front-facing stereo speakers, so you can use it to annoy people on the bus/tube while you watch video or listen to drum and bass on your way to work.

More details on pricing and release date will be revealed soon.
