Microsoft has started offering free Touch or Type covers to those who who pick up a Surface RT in the US or UK. The tablet, which retails for £399, is clearly undergoing a bit of a sales push from Microsoft as it struggles to compete against the likes of the iPad.

The Touch Cover accessory is usually around £99 when sold separately, with the Type cover costing £109. Quite a significant saving then for those considering investing in the new Microsoft kit. Microsoft has said the offer is only for a limited time but is yet to go into exact date specifics.

Also included in the deal is the limited edition Touch Covers, which boast designs from various different artists. It's an impressive giveaway and one that is irritatingly not being applied to the Surface Pro. This does however give you a £20 saving on Office if you fancy picking one up.

The Touch Cover offer has been available in the UK for a while now, but the US launch is much more recent. Perhaps Microsoft plans on giving away covers permanently with its Surface tablets, or at least including them in money saving bundles. After all they are one of the biggest draws of the device.
