Asus has announced the Zenbook Infinity, a new, super-thin Ultrabook that boasts a lid produced from Gorilla Glass 3. Pictures of the new laptop are yet to be revealed, with Asus promising to show it off at Computex in Taipei on 4 June.

Previous Zenbooks have pretty much led the way on the design front when it comes to Windows Ultrabooks. The Infinity looks to be no exception, being just 15.5 mm thick, which is 14 per cent less than previous Zenbook designs.

The Gorilla Glass element of the laptop will keep both the lid and keyboard wraparound protected and hopefully scratch free. Gorilla Glass 3 is a relatively new piece of technology, so far appearing only on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Zenbook Infinity is planned for launch in 2013, perhaps with the new Windows 8.1 update on board. Specifications should follow when the laptop is unveiled at Computex.

In the meantime, Asus has us seriously excited. A glass wrapped Ultrabook could be something very special indeed and should represent a significant design departure from the company's usual aluminium build.
