No iPad support for BBM at launch, says BlackBerry
BlackBerry has revealed that iPad is not part of its BBM for iOS plans, at least not initially. It is concentrating on iPhone first, with possible tablet support coming at a later date.
During its BlackBerry Live conference in Florida, the company revealed that it is to unshackle its hugely popular messaging service and release applications for rival operating systems iOS and Android. However, Vivek Bhardwaj, head of BlackBerry Software Portfolio, told Trusted Reviews that the version for Apple devices will be targeted at iPhone and iPod touch users to begin with. "At this point it is iOS and Android, and that’s iOS phones running iOS 6 and higher," he said.
"Smartphone is our real focus and again it comes back to what BBM is. If you like BBM and the engagement and the activity, it’s because it is mobile, because people are on the go."
He didn't rule out the manufacturer adding an iPad app in the future, but it is not in more immediate plans. "When you start looking at tablets, computers and other screens, the usage model changes and behaviour changes," Bhardwaj said. "For us right now the absolute focus is getting BBM on to smartphones."
