Gran Turismo 6 announced for holiday 2013 on PlayStation 3
Since Gran Turismo 5 was released in 2010, the title has sold 10 million copies and now it's time for a refresh. Sony announced on its blog on Wednesday that Gran Turismo 6 will be available at Christmas 2013 on PlayStation 3, with many enhancements, improvement, and additions to the "real driving simulator".
Sony says most predominately we'll see new tracks and cars on-top of an overhauled user interface, which should appeal to the Gran Turismo fanboys in the crowd. With all the new features, gameplay should be better as well, because a new gaming engine has been added.
According to Sony, the car line-up will grow to 1,200 with new customisation options. The track list will grow to 33, with 71 diggerent layouts available, 19 of which will be new to the game. UK's Silverstone Circuit will be one of the seven new track added.
"I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will only be the beginning for GT6," said producer Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. "The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”
Sony also has plans for expanded connectivity for the title, integrating to some extent with smartphones, tablets and computers.
While availability for PlayStation 3 has been announced, there's no word on Gran Turismo's life on the PlayStation 4, set to launch this autumn. It's a bit odd that the console wasn't even mentioned, but it would be even weirder if the title didn't come to the next generation.
