BBC iPlayer for Windows Phone 8 launched

BBC iPlayer has been released for Windows Phone 8, meaning you'll be able to catch up with Auntie on your Microsoft smartphone.

Joe Belfiore, corporate vice-president of the Windows Phone programme at Microsoft, made the early announcement with a cheeky tweet, with a post on the BBC Internet Blog detailing the new launch.

The app is now available to download on the Windows Phone Store so you can catch up with the last seven days of BBC content. The app is very much as it is on other platforms, making it easy to search, select favourites or simply browse through the different BBC channels on offer.

The app also gives access to BBC radio, although there doesn't appear to be the option to watch live TV as you get on Android or iPhone.

The BBC iPlayer app brings another core app (for UK users) to the platform, following the announcement this week of a new flagship Windows Phone 8 handsets from Nokia, the Nokia Lumia 925.
