Go exploring with Sony's new DEV-50V digital recording binoculars

Sony has announced an update to its 3D digital recording binoculars, now offering a 30 per cent smaller and lighter design with a new weather-resistant build.

Sony is boasting the DEV-50V digital recording binoculars as perfect for animal watching. You can zoom from a 0.8x wide-view magnification all the way to a close 25x view. The binoculars are splash and dust-resistant, but don't expect them to go fully underwater like Sony's new Handycam.

Unlike traditional binoculars, the DEV-50V can be used for photo and video. There's a high-contrast OLED viewfinder  which can capture 20.4 megapixel photo and fullHD or 3D video. Sony brags about an autofocus mode that "tracks your subject crisply and clearly, even when zooming".

The binoculars don't have any internal memory, so you'll need to supply your own memory stick PRO Duo or SD card. Photos or video recorded on the DEV-50V can be presented on your large television at home by using the HDMI output or microUSB port. Sony will be supplying a large eye cup, lens cap, power cord, carrying case, HDMI (micro) cable, micro USB cable, finder cap, neck strap, battery, and AC adapter as accessories.

The DEV-50V will hit the UK in June. No pricing has been detailed.
