Twitter pushes Trends function out to 160 additional cities

Twitter has boosted the number of cities that can take advantage of its Trends function. The location-based technology lets you see what people are talking about on Twitter in your area.

There have been 160 new cities added, including 10 new UK locations. The likes of Hull, Swansea, Bournemouth and plenty of others are now all able to use Twitter Trends.

To use Twitter Trends you simply need to login to the Twitter website and then you should spot them in the third box down on the left-hand side of your home page. You can alter trends by country if you fancy seeing what is going on elsewhere around the world.

Clicking a trend will take you to the relevant page of Tweets and surrounding video and images. In most cases they are just popular Twitter hashtags but they don't necessarily have to be. Trends can also consist of names or other phrases that are being mentioned a lot on Twitter in one area.

Twitter plans to add more cities to the Trends system as time goes on.
