Casio has announced the EXILIM EX-F1 that can shoot up to 60 frames per second at CES in Las Vegas.

First unveiled at IFA in September last year, the new camera will sport a 6-megapixel sensor and come with a 12x optical zoom.

However the appealing element to this camera is that ability to take pictures fast.

For still images, the camera achieves ultra high speed burst shooting of 60 images per second at maximum resolution - the fastest in the world.

Users will also be able to use a Pre-shot Burst Mode, an ultra-high speed continuous shooting mode that captures images from the scene prior to the moment when you actually press the shutter button.

Using the still image burst mode, users can shoot at an ultra fast 60 frames per second. In burst mode, the frame rate can also be varied from between 1 and 60 frames per second while shooting. Up to 60 shots can be taken at once, so 60 shots per second for one second, or 5 shots per second for 12 seconds, are possible.

The camera can also capture movies at VGA resolution at an incredible recording speed of 300fps, 600fps or 1200fps, which means it can record movies for replay in ultra-slow motion, a function that according to Casio has only been possible so far with a limited range of professional movie equipment.

Back in September Casio said it was expecting the product to be available in the next 2 years, four months on its here and will be in the shops in March for around $1000.
