CES 2008: Samsung TVs get connected

Feature Ethernet socket for internet widgets

Samsung has added a touch of colour to its new range of LCD televisions alongside a bevy of new tech at CES in Las Vegas.

The new televisions announced at the show will feature Ethernet sockets so they can be connected to the internet to offer up to the minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information via the company's InfoLink RSS service.

Supposedly designed to be the entertainment hub in the home, the Series 6 and 7 LCD HDTVs enable consumers to access a wide range of digital and multimedia devices--such as MP3 players, camcorders, and PCs--and have their contents displayed, managed and played through the HDTV.

On the tech specs side, the Series 6 televisions will offer 1080p resolution, Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology four HDMI 1.3 inputs.

The Series 6 Full HD LCD TVs will be available in March of 2008 and come in 40-inch (LN40A650T), 46-inch (LN46A650T) and 52-inch (LN52A650T) sizes.

The company's Series 7 models will takes, according to Samsung, networking and multimedia management to a whole new level beyond what is available on the Series 6 models.

Consumers will be able to view MPEG and JPEG files stored on external devices by connecting through a side-mounted USB 2.0 in addition to an internal flash memory loaded with premium content right out of the box.

The 750 LCD HDTVs will be available in May of 2008 and come in 40-inch (LN40A750T), 46-inch (LN46A750T) and 52-inch (LN52A750T) sizes.
