The Pebble smartwatch has been updated to version 1.9.0, packing a cleaner user interface and the addition of the retro Snake game introduced in 1970.
The update is available to the few Pebble owners who have already received their watch. You can download it by going to the Pebble smartphone app and tapping "check for FW update".
Going back into the watch's UI for the first time, you'll notice a new interface that groups the bevy of watch faces together. Navigation controls are also moved primarily to the right side of the watch for easier navigation. You can now also move between watch faces using the up and down buttons, rather than jumping back into menus.
Version 1.9 also adds better ambient light detection to the Pebble, which was seen as an issue for the first set of users. A Pebble SDK is on its way next month, and the new Snake game that is now included on the watch may give us a glimpse on how things will work. Gaming on watch sounds mighty awkward, however.
The Pebble began shipping to Kickstarter backers in late-January. As production improves, it will be available to more customers in the coming months.
Pebble isn't alone with a smartwatch update, as Sony also updated its SmartWatch new watch faces and notifications yesterday.
