Windows 8 has just got itself a proper official Twitter app. The app, which can be downloaded from the Windows Store, has all the usual Twitter functionality plus a few extra twists.

Unique to the Twitter app are some modern UI treatments - namely, it incorporates Windows 8's snap view, so you can attach it to the left or right of the screen.

Next is a new landscape view that allows you to see big-screen versions of pictures posted to Twitter. A horizontal swipe with let you view multiple snaps in the Discover tab.

Charms have also been updated to go with the app, so the Share and Search charms can now use Twitter functions. That means you can Tweet from any app, as well as search for hashtags on Windows 8.

Finally, live tiles and notifications have been updated to show your Twitter feed.

All in all, it's a nice update which allows you to keep track of Twitter at a glance. It does lack some of the feed-management functions you get in more-complex Twitter clients, but for a simple browse, its clean and clear and easy to understand.
