Sony and Simon Cowell have collaborated over a new set of headphones - the MDR-X05 - in bringing what they think will be the best portable pop music listening experience yet.
"When Sony teamed up with Simon Cowell, our goal was to create the best-sounding headphones in the world for today's most popular music – allowing listeners to experience the full spectrum of audio that artists and producers hear in recording studios," said Andrew Sivori, vice-president of the personal audio group at Sony Electronics.
The new X05s are the latest addition to the X-headphone line, which has been worked on in conjunction with X-Factor judge Simon Cowell.
The headphones feature precision 40mm drivers which Sony promises should pack quite a high-performance sound into a compact earphone. You also get memory foam earpads, which over time should shape themselves to your ear for maximum comfort.
The X05s will be shipping with an iPod-compatible remote control that also functions with Android. They come in a range of colours: red, black, white and then red on black and black on red. They are priced at $199 (around £130) and should launch on 22 March. Sadly these headphones aren't headed to the UK.
Sony also says it would be announcing a competition to win a set of the headphones on its blog, which might be worth entering given that they are fairly pricey.
The last we heard of Cowell in the world of tech was when Will.I.Am mentioned him in an interview with The Sun and explained they were both working on a new show: "We’re working on a project called X Factor for Tech - and it’s going to be out of this world," he said.
First headphones and now the possibility of a TV show?
