Sennheiser is to launch a pair of wireless headphones that promise to avoid compressing the audio transmitted unlike competiting technology Bluetooth.

Although details and pricing is still sketchy, the new headphones called the MX W1 will, according to Sennheiser, have "everything you need to be able to enjoy music without being tied down by it".

The system also includes a transport and charging case for when you’re out and about.

Using an alternative to Bluetooth called Kleer, the headphones promise CD quality sound even though the transmitter is only the size of a matchbox.

The MX W1 will be available from May 2008.

We will have more information following the launch at CES in Las Vegas.

We will keep you posted.

The company has also said that it will be launching the CX 6 Travel headphones that will offer " a genuine, high-end, ear-canal headphone with a powerful bass and detailed sound reproduction." They will be available in stores from March 2008 as well as a “Professional” headphone series called the IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8.

The ear-canal headphones promise to "offer the greatest attenuation with unparalleled sound quality in the portable sector" with the top-of-the-range IE 8 allowing you to decide for yourself how much bass your ear-canal headphones should reproduce.

A small adjusting screw on the black headphones enables you to regulate the bass response on the IE 8 to suit. The frequency response ranges from 10 to 20,000 Hz, and passive attenuation can be up to 26 dB.
