Nikon's S-series of Coolpix cameras has a new champion: the S3500. Billed as the replacement for the popular S3300 model, the latest S3500 adds a 7x optical zoom lens for a greater reach and yet higher resolution 20-megapixel CCD sensor than its predecessor.A bold move, given that yet more pixels on that small sensor's surface area are unlikely to garner quality improvements. Still, the wider-ranging lens sounds like a plus point.Other features include a 2.7-inch LCD screen, lens-based image stabilisation, 720p movie capture and a range of in-camera filter effects to jazz up those images. The slim compact is just over 20mm thick - or thin, "half full, half empty" and all that - despite the the 25-170mm equivalent zoom range. The Coolpix S3500 - as its paint-drip promotional image touches upon - comes in lots of different finishes. There are eight in total: purple, silver, black, red, orange and pink, as well as pink with lineart or blue with lineart. Very swanky.Looks like this one's all about the eye-catching quirky designs.
