CES 2008: Goodyear to launch eight GPS models at CES

Goodyear has announced it has entered an agreement with The NCC, who will launch the first line of Goodyear branded, driver-focused GPS navigation systems at CES.

Touted as a "rugged GPS system", the company’s eight models will have features that the two companies claim are "never before seen" on mobile navigation systems, including a remote control to access hands-free communication, with a single quick-touch button to answer and hang up incoming calls.

"Managing your cell phone by remote control is an entirely new concept in GPS", said Barry Rosenstock, VP of operations for The NCC.

"But it speaks to consumer demand for driver safety and convenience, which is what these devices aspire to provide."

The call management will come in via Bluetooth capabilities and the remote control can be fastened to the driver’s side visor, placed near the gear "shift", or stuck anywhere within reach.

Certain models will also feature MSN Direct service, for live traffic updates, local gas prices, weather reports, and even local movie times.

The Goodyear GPS systems will also feature 4.3-inch LCD touchscreens, speaker-quality sound, text-to-speech navigation for spoken street names, millions of points of interest, MP3 and video playback, A/V inputs for MP3 players, TV tuners, or DVD players, 2GB of internal and removable SD storage, and more – all encased in what the blurb says is Goodyear’s "customary design" - protective rubber.
