Canonical teases Ubuntu tablet announcement for 19 February
Canonical, developer of Ubuntu, is set to announce tablet plans for its mobile operating system, according to a teaser on the company's website. The timer counts down to 19 February with the words "Tick, tock, tablet time!"
An Ubuntu tablet has not been detailed, so features aren't exactly clear.
In January, Ubuntu announced its own mobile operating system that is set to land on new handsets in October. For testing, the operating system will be available on the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 on 21 February. At the time, no tablet details were provided.
The Ubuntu phone UI, however, is aimed at offering a simpler solution than Android and other mobile operating systems, according to the company. The lockscreen is more than just a barrier to the rest of the OS. You can unlock to any app you like, and navigation is reminiscent of the frame drags used in Windows 8's Modern UI and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
We'll keep our ears open for anything Canonical plans to announce. In the meantime, we've reached out to Canonical in the hope of learning more.
