Belkin has announced that its $299 Thunderbolt Express Dock is now available for pre-order and will be shipping within the next week.
The Thunderbolt Express Dock was first announced in September 2011 with three USB ports, an outbound Thunderbolt port for daisy-chaining, FireWire 800 port and Gigabit Ethernet port.
At CES 2012 we saw further changes, including an added HDMI port and 3.5mm audio port. But guess what, it didn't stop there, as a USB 3.0, audio in port, and eSATA were added in June 2012, bumping the dock to $400.
At CES 2013, Belkin settled with its final design, removing the eSATA port and dropping the price to a more reasonable $299, after more than a year of changes. It now features one Thunderbolt port, one FireWire 800 port, one Gigabit Ethernet port, three USB 3.0 ports (max 2.5Gbps transfer rate speed), one 3.5mm-out port and one 3.5mm-in port.
This device is intended to make for a single connection over Thunderbolt, creating an easy way to transfer data between eight other devices. Multiple Thunderbolt devices can also be daisy-chained together.
