A patent infringement battle that has been running since 2002 has finally been settled.

A subsidiary of mobile phone manufacturer Motorola called Symbol Technologies Inc and Metrologic Instruments Inc were in dispute over bar-code scanning and mobile computing patents.

However, the two companies have now released a joint statement stating that they have settled all of their disputes.

As part of an agreement between them, the two companies will cross-license their patents for a limited term.
