BlackBerry: All PlayBooks will get BlackBerry 10

BlackBerry, nee RIM, has confirmed that its PlayBook tablet will be getting an update to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, although has not gone as far as saying when exactly that will happen.

In a move that we've been expecting, Thorsten Heins, CEO for the company, speaking at the BlackBerry 10 event in New York, said: "Our plan is to upgrade all existing PlayBooks to BlackBerry 10."

The news will be welcomed by those who signed up to the PlayBook last year because it will give them a completely new and improved tablet experience over the one they already have.

The BlackBerry CEO made the announcement at the launch of the new operating system and two new handsets - the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10.

BlackBerry has always said that the OS would support three resolutions - 1280 x 768, 720 x 720, and 1280 x 720.

With the Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 taking the first two, it is also expected that the PlayBook will be getting a resolution boost to 720p, which would be nice.

Currently, the PlayBook runs its own variation of OS called the PlayBook OS. BlackBerry 10 uses it as a strong influence for the new operating system.

We will keep you posted.
