Sony has announced its rumoured Xperia Tablet Z in Japan, at just 6.9mm thick and 495g heavy. The Z tablet is a duo with the Xperia Z smartphone announced at CES 2013 and a follow-up to the Xperia Tablet S.
The Tablet Z features a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen, Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 8.1-megapixel rear-camera, microSD expansion slot, NFC, LTE, Sony S-Force sound, and Android 4.1 as the operating system. In Sony fashion, it is also water and dust-proof, coming in white or black.
The Xperia Z tablet seems to make sense as a complement to the Xperia Z handset, which has been well received. During our hands-on with the smartphone, we found it to be well constructed and zippy, but our review will tell the full story.
Leaked NTT DoCoMo information earlier this week showed that the network plans to announce it in Japan on 22 January - next Tuesday. No word on European or US carriers.
No word on the pricing of the tablet either, but Pocket-lint will be hands-on at Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, where we hope to get a closer look.
Sony has also confirmed to Pocket-lint that at the moment this is a Japanese product launch only.
