LaCie 5big: 20TB Thunderbolt RAID is super quick

LaCie has announced a RAID system that can hold up-to 20TB of hard drive space and run at speeds of up-to 785 MB/s thanks to Thunderbolt support.

Called the LaCie 5big, it certainly isn't something for casual users. Starting at $1,200 (£746) for the 10TB version, photo and video editors looking to store their collection with plenty of RAID redundancy will find it particularly useful.

It can take five swappable hard drives, with a cooling fan to keep things running smoothly. The 5big also features two Thunderbolts for those interested in getting really crazy with daisy-chaining.

LaCie has not yet detailed the pricing of the 20TB version, but we know it won't be cheap.

The company has also announced an interesting new external hard drive design at CES in Las Vegas with its new Blade Runner product. It combines 4TB of storage with USB 3.0 for a stylish storage solution. Designed by Philippe Starck, this product will be limited to only 9,999 units when it becomes available.

Finally, the 5big NAS Pro has also been announced, with five bays of hard drive space and up-to 200MB/sec speeds, starting at $549 (£341).

Our own Stuart Miles is a fan of LaCie's Little Big Disk Thunderbolt drive, knocking it only for portability issues.
