Belkin's clever WeMo smartphone-controlled light switch is to get a much needed functionality boost with the addition of Android compatibility.

Designed to replace a standard light switch, WeMo lets you control full household lighting from your phone screen, making it an easy solution for a clever connected home.

Once WeMo is installed, all you need do is connect it to the WeMo app and then it is possible to turn off a full set of lights from your phone. Lights can also be scheduled to turn off at a specific time.

The switch does require a Wi-Fi router to work. Any iOS device with iOS 5 or later or any Android device running 4.0 or later will work with the WeMo.

The WeMo will go on sale in summer 2013 and should include the Android functionality soon after launch. No word on pricing yet.
