LG unveils CES 2013 Smart TV range, featuring NFC sharing
Like an overeager parent, LG doesn't want us to wait until the big day to see the presents it has in store - it's spilling the beans now. Unlike its South Korean rival Samsung - which would rather tease us with hints and video trailers of its "something new" TV set - LG has released pictures and details of its new TV range before their public showing at CES 2013 in Las Vegas.
The trade show starts on 8 January (with press conferences the day before) but we're being treated to a host of information on the 2013 LG Cinema 3D line-up in advance - including a peek at the almost bezel-free design of the top-of-the-range models.
One of the other standout features that will come with the line-up of plasma and LED TVs is NFC compatibility. Namely, through the "Tag On" technology, the sets will feature an NFC "sticker" that will pair the set with a capable smartphone automatically, allowing you to stream content with the minimum of fuss.
The sets will also be compatible/come with the new, redesigned Magic Remote - the motion-sensing pointer and voice-controlled device - have WiDi and Miracast connectivity, and support LG Cloud.
LG also boasts that its new line-up of TVs come with CPUs that run 120 per cent faster than in previous models, while the graphics processors run 300 per cent faster.
The Smart Home app user interface has been redesigned too, and there will be plenty of partner announcements for content and gaming applications to come.
"LG always strives to provide the most engaging, most convenient user experience to consumers all over the globe," said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Company.
"We have been singularly uncompromising, both in developing and improving the LG Smart TV platform. As a result, we are confident the user experience of our 2013 models will shatter all expectations and demonstrate that LG has moved the medium of Smart TV forward."
The company will also show a new OLED 55-inch display and its 84-inch UHDTV (4K). It has previously announced two new Google TVs for the convention too.
Pocket-lint will be at CES 2013 in Las Vegas in force. We'll bring you more live from the show floor.
