Tablets sales have risen 1,000 per cent year on year, says Currys and PC World. It also claims to have sold a tablet device every second on Cyber Monday (10 December), as the high street and online consumer electronics retailer launches a page dedicated to the top ten gadgets for Christmas, as determined by their trending status on Twitter.

Point your browser at curryspcwgiftbuzz.co.uk and you will see the current top ten trending gadgets, with live Twitter feeds at the bottom for each device.

Unsurprisingly, the iPad is at the top of the pile, with the iPod touch following close behind. However, it is Barnes & Noble's Nook in fourth place that may shock some, especially as it is two places above the Nexus 7.

Of course, as this is based on live tweets, the placements in the top ten will very much be determined by multiple factors. For example, the Nook family has just been bolstered by the release of the Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets, whereas the Nexus 7 has been around for some while. Tweets will more than likely reflect the fact that reviews of the Nook tablets - Pocket-lint's included - have only just started to appear, while the Nexus 7 reviews appeared months ago.

Nonetheless, it is interesting that the PS Vita is trending more feverishly than the PS3 or Nintendo 3DS. Good news for Sony, perhaps.

Currys and PC World hopes this site will help you choose what you'd like stuffed into your Christmas stocking as we start the mad rush to snap up last-minute presents. It's worth noting, mind, that the iPhone or other smartphones are missing off the list because the store doesn't stock them.
