Wireless broadband provider Freedom4 has moved from trial stage to offering full-fat services in Milton Keynes.

The company has joined forces with ConnectMK to offer the first UK commercial wireless broadband service using WiMax technology.

"We have had great success with our trials of WiMax in the Milton Keynes area and partnering with ConnectMK allows us to reach the wider community", said Mike Read, chief executive at Freedom4.

"We can also provide services in areas where traditional ADSL access is not feasible, giving residents and businesses a cost-effective alternative to access the latest in internet connectivity."

Over 1000 people in Milton Keynes have registered interest in joining Freedom4's network.

Ofcom granted a WiMAX licence to UK Broadband in November, who plan to offer similar services in the Thames Valley.
