Digital photo frames are Christmas favourite

Frame sales outstrip even the Wii

According to shopping search engine, Kelkoo, the digital photo frame is the most popular stocking filler this Christmas.

It has today revealed that digital displays have been the most searched for item in the run-up to Christmas, outflanking the Nintendo Wii (which Kelkoo says it can still help you find stocks of).

Also in the top five are the Nintendo DS, iPod nano and Sony VAIO laptop.

Bruce Fair, Kelkoo's new UK MD, said: "The Nintendo Wii has consistently been one of the most searched for products on Kelkoo this year, but it seems that online shoppers are also seeking out more unusual items for their loved ones to open come Christmas morning".

PC World has confirmed the trend, reporting that sales of digital photo frames are up 900% year on year, and are now selling at the rate of 10 a minute at PC World.

The retailer adds in an aside that it believes the digital frame could do for the traditional postcard as many of the latest frames have wireless technology, which means images can be sent direct to a mantlepiece via the internet.

Niall O’Keeffe from PC World said: "If you’re on holiday or for that matter at a party – wherever you are really – you can send digital pictures direct to the frame via an internet connection".

"We suspect that this will lead to a decline in the postcard as this digital alternative emerges, though whether or not we’ll see a similar level of sauciness in the pictures is anyone’s guess."
