APP OF THE DAY: HotUKDeals review (iOS and Android)
Cheap as chips, they’re lovely, get it while it’s hot. If these are the kinds of phrases that get your juices flowing, well, you’re probably a market trader. If, however, you love technology and you like to pay an excellent price for it, then today’s App of the Day on Pocket-lint is for you. Even the download is a bargain. It’s free.
There have been one or two less-official apps to bring the HotUKDeals website and service to mobile phones, but HUKD itself has finally done the honours for both Android and iOS users. To give the likes of HotUkDeals Droid their dues, the real deal isn’t an awful lot different. Sadly for the third parties, there’s just enough to make them obsolete.
What you get is a graphically superior version of the latest deals with their appropriate temperature gauges in mock mercury across the screen, as well as their readings in degrees. A nice little pull-down from the top allows you to filter by type of product and type of deal although, oddly enough, you don’t seem to be able to play with the date too much.
The local tab is rather useful and taps into the function in the Basket Buddy app already released six or so months ago. This time, though, it doesn’t leverage your GPS but, instead, you pick which region of the country you’re in and the app will find you the best local deals. You can set up alerts for certain items, submit your own deals using photos and web addresses and, of course, get social about it all on Twitter and Facebook.
We wouldn’t necessarily rush to change if you already use an unofficial HotUKDeals app but, if you’re not already a browser of the service, we seriously suggest that you get involved. After all, who doesn’t love a bargain?
