Apple has published what can only be described as a non-apology to Samsung, despite the UK court ruling that that the Galaxy Tab range did not copy the iPad.
While the posting, titled “Samsung/Apple UK judgment” - and on a somewhat drab background - acknowledges the court’s decision, Apple highlights specific quotes from the ruling that support Apple’s claims.
These include, “The extreme simplicity of the Apple design is striking” and “From the front they [the Galaxy Tab range] belong to the family which includes the Apple design”.
However, our personal favourite is: “They [Samsung Tabs] do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design. They are not as cool.”
In a slap of the face to the British judicial system, the posting also refers to both the German and US court judgements that ruled in favour of Apple.
So not so much an apology from Apple, more a “we accept this decision, but it’s wrong”.
The UK court ruling also stated that Apple would have to take out adverts in an array of mainstream magazines and newspapers issuing an apology to Samsung.
We can’t wait to see those.
