Apple says it has sold more than 100 million iPads in the two and a half years the tablet has been on sale.

"People love their iPads," Tim Cook said, announcing the news at the company's event in San Jose.

According to Apple, the company shipped more iPads in the second quarter of 2012 than HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Acer did laptops, as it says more and more people go tablet rather than laptop.

The company also says that even though others are selling tablets to compete with the iPad, Apple commands 90 per cent of the tablet traffic on the web.
