Mobile operator O2 is planning to launch an IPTV service in the UK, The Guardian reports.

Spain's Telefónica, O2's parent company, already offers TV services in the Czech Republic and has video on demand film partnerships set up with Warner Bros, Disney, HBO and Paramount.

The suggestion is that the company would be looking to extend those relationships into the UK market next year.

O2 has the infrstructure in place to implement such a scheme following the £50 million purchase of Be Broadband last year and is apparently planning to launch trials at the start of 2008 with a full roll out towards the end of next year.

O2's Czech services have seen 70,000 customers sign up but the company would be entering a very comeptitive market in the UK with rival offerings from Sky, Virgin Media and BT.
