Thirty-five years since the first instalment hit cinemas and still the Star Wars franchise remains as popular as ever. Which is presumably why Japanese watchmakers Seiko has decided to cash in with five limited-edition wristwatches based on various Star Wars characters.

The series of watches will go on sale on 12 October and include R2D2, Darth Vader, the Storm Troopers, Yoda and, erm...Darth Maul. Whereas the R2D2 watch is digital – according to Ubergizmo the 300dpi display is capable of showing clips from the films - the others feature analogue displays.

Emblazoned on the back of each watch is an image of the character whose watch you have purchased.

All the watches are limited edition, with between 500 and 1,500 of each. They also don’t come cheap. Amazon Japan has begun pre-order sales for around about £760. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Well it all depends how big a Star Wars fan you class yourself to be.
