Half a billion Android devices activated, now up to 1.3 million added a day
What's all this fuss and nonsense about an iPhone 5? On the launch day of the latest smartphone from Apple, Google has revealed that it has surpassed 500 million activated Android devices globally.
Hugo Barra, director of project management, Android, posted a picture celebrating the return of the Jelly Bean Android statue outside the front of Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California, on his Google+ page and announced the incredible statistics.
"Today is a big day for Android... 500 million devices activated globally, and over 1.3 million added every single day," he wrote.
"Oh, and btw, the Jelly Bean statue is back in our front yard :)."
The latest of the Android statues had to go in for repairs shortly after it first appeared on the lawn. We expect it to be joined by a massive slice of key lime pie sometime in the near(ish) future.
We wonder why Barra chose today to make such an impressive claim... Hmmmm...
