Amazon has reduced the price of it's entry-level Kindle ebook reader to just $69 in the US, following the announcement of a new illuminated ebook reader that has a screen suitable for reading when the lights are out.
US customers keen to get in on the Amazon Kindle action will be able to pre-order the new lower priced model from today, and will ship next week, on 14 September.
The new cheaper model will cost $40 less than the new flagship model. Amazon hasn't said whether the Kindle Touch will also be getting a price reduction.
But it isn't just a price reduction. Amazon say that the Kindle has been updated, bringing smoother fonts and faster page turns.
UPDATE: Amazon has now confirmed that the Kindle will be available in the UK for £69. You can order it today and it will be shipping from 12 September.
