Details of a new HTC Flyer 2 have emerged suggesting the Taiwanese manufacturer is gearing up to take on the likes of the Google Nexus 7, with a possible unveil on 19 September.

As with the original, the HTC Flyer 2 will run Android, but reports claim the OS will be the latest Jelly Bean variant. It’s also expected to ship with a 28nm Snapdragon S4 chip that enables LTE integration.

However, on account of its smaller 7-inch display (said to have a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution) and mid-tier features such as a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera and one-megapixel front-facing snapper, the HTC Flyer 2 is expected to come at a competitive price point.

The launch price of the original HTC Flyer was an extortionate £600, but if its successor is really going to take on the likes of the Nexus 7 it would need to be available at a similar cost - £199.

HTC is holding a press event in New York on 19 September with speculation now mounting that the HTC Flyer 2 will make its debut there.

It’s not the only rumoured HTC tablet to be doing the rounds though, with images of a mysterious 10-inch tablet emerging at the end of the August.
