Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Xperia Arc, Neo and Ray, so long as you're on Vodafone
Vodafone has told Pocket-lint that the Sony Xperia Arc, Ray and Neo handsets that use its network will all be receiving an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.
This is despite rival operator O2 announcing that the phones had failed in stringent testing to determine whether or not the handsets could handle the upgrade and would therefore not be endorsing the upgrade.
Vodafone’s response suggests there’s a degree of disparity between the networks when it comes to Android updates.
“We’ve tested and approved the software for the Xperia Arc, Neo and Ray, and are currently awaiting confirmation of a roll out date from Sony,” Vodafone told Pocket-lint.
O2’s reasoning as to why the Sony Xperia Ray, Arc and Neo all failed the Ice Cream Sandwich testing was that the update seriously “affected the phones’ speed and performance”.
So far neither Everything Everywhere (the umbrella company for both Orange and T-Mobile) nor Three has commented on what stance they will take with regards to updating the Sony Xperia range.
