Philips Fidelio X1 pictures and hands-on
If you're in the market for a premium set of headphones then you're veritably spoilt for choice these days, with strong offerings, it seems, from all quarters.
Philips has added to its Fidelio premium audio line with the X1 headphones, topping a range that also includes the M1 and L1 'phones.
The Philips Fidelio X1 are dripping with luxury at every turn. Fusing metal and leather, they give you a classic yet contemporary look. They are as wonderful on the eye as they are on the ear: we especially like the calf leather finish to the headband.
Pop the Fidelio X1 over your ears and the generous pads finished with a soft velour cushion your ears. These are substantial headphones, designed for home listening, and from the time we spent with them on the show floor at IFA, incredibly comfortable.
We tested a few tracks from both Philips' supplied MP3 player and the smartphone in our pocket and were impressed with the detailed and balanced performance.
The Fidelio X1 offer an open back design with 50mm neodymium drivers. Philips tells us that a special diaphragm profile ensures that no notes are missed.
Of course, you can't judge a pair of headphones like this from such a limited selection in a brief period of time, but we're impressed with what we've heard so far.
