Gigabyte P2542G gaming notebook pictures and hands-on

Deep within the Churchill War Rooms in central London, Pocket-lint was invited to take a gander at Taiwanese giant Gigabyte's latest laptops.

Most striking of all on display was the Gigabyte P2542G. Dressed in a beaming yellow colour, the P2542 is for those looking for a desktop replacement laptop that can run games and multimedia without a hitch.

Flip the laptop around and twin vents - inspired by sports cars, so we're told - are there to cool the CPU and GPU. Although Gigabyte was keen to promote the laptop's slender form, we weren't convinced: at just under 2.6kgs in weight you're unlikely to speed away like a sports car with this one.

But that's besides the point, as the P2542G delivers speed where it counts: on the inside. The laptop comes loaded with a third-generation Intel Core i7 Quad-Core processor capable of delivering speeds of 2.3-3.3GHz, plus an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M GPU with 2GB of dedicated RAM.

The 15.6-inch laptop also comes loaded with a 1920x1080 high-definition screen, rewritable Blu-ray disc drive, 128GB SSD and 750GB HDD, 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM (expandable to 16GB), two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI out.

Available from the end of August, the Gigabyte P2542G will be priced at a pound under £1300.
