If you’re of a certain age, chances are you spent a fair part of your adolescence fantasising about riding one of the hover bikes from the Star Wars films. That fantasy has now become a reality after a Californian research team released a video demoing the futuristic vehicle.
Aerofex has spent the best part of four years perfecting its hover bike, having seen previous versions go up in smoke, quite literally. However, its latest offering can hover up to 15ft in the air, reaching speeds of 30mph.
The hover bike is not quite as streamlined as the speederbike Luke Skywalker uses to zip around the forests of Endor in Return of the Jedi, but that doesn’t dampen our enthusiasm to have a go on one.
The video below shows the Aerofex team testing the hover bike through the Mojave Desert in the US, though no stormtroopers are seen throughout the footage.
