Sony will issue an update for the PlayStation 3 this month that will update the Blu-ray side of things to Profile 1.1.

This "Final Standard Profile" that the Blu-ray Disc Association has recently stated will now be branded "Bonus View" enables advanced features such as picture-in-picture.

The first mainstream Blu-ray disc movie releases with these kind of bonus features are expected January 2008.

The revelation was made by Sony executive Don Eklund at the High-Def 2.0 conference held in Los Angeles.
