WEBSITE OF THE DAY: ASCII Streetview

You might not realise it, but you probably do a little bit of ASCII art everyday. You know when you want to make sure that somebody gets that you’re joking in an email or text? You do that little thing with the semi-colon, the hyphen and the close parenthesis? That’s ASCII art. Sort of.

Using just the printable characters from a traditional computer keyboard you have expressed a human quality – a sense of humour - through using an emoticon, to call it its more widely used name.

But that’s not all that can be done with simple letters, numbers and symbols, as tllabs.io/asciistreetview shows in quite breathtaking style.

Here you can type in any place you like and see the Google Street View image displayed as a piece of ASCII art.

Be it Times Square or Great Yarmouth seafront, if Google has Street Viewed it, you’ll easily recognise your favourite places, but you’ll see them in a whole new light.
