Ice Cream Sandwich lands on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, starts rolling out to rest of tablet family

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has finally started being rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy Tab family of tablets, with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the first in the queue. A 237.40MB firmware update package is now available for download in the UK, either over-the-air or via Kies.

Similar updates for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0, 7.7 and 8.9 devices are expected imminently.

At present, it is understood that the update is for UK devices only.

As well as offer a raft of new features, such as an improved user interface, voice input and new camera capabilities, Ice Cream Sandwich (which, in this case, is actually Android 4.0.4) promises to better the Galaxy Tab 10.1's battery usage and processing speed for general tasks.

It is not known at this stage whether Samsung will release a further update in the near future for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, as found on Google's own new tablet device, the Nexus 7.
