The development team behind AnySim, the software application that unlocks the iPhone has made the source code open source.

Announcing the news on Google Code, the dev team said:

"You may know anySIM, the most popular and free unlock solution for Apple's iPhone. Because of the public request and to archive a constant code quality, we now opensourced it!"

The source code went online on Friday 7 December.

"Anybody is welcome to contribute patches to the software on the proper way", the team said in a statement on the code page. "You will be able to submit potential changes to the tree via svn by than."

Commentators believe the move is at attempt to keep one step ahead of Apple's firmware updates, the next of which rumours suggest is happening this month.
