JVC has launched a new ‘TH-Series' DVD Digital Cinema systems that will offer 5.1 5.1-channel surround sound and a range of features.

The new lineup includes systems featuring high-powered centre units, high-resolution PAL-progressive pictures, and ‘hand-clap' surround sound set-up (You clap your hands, and the delay times of all channels are set individually, and the level of each speaker is automatically trimmed). Expanded media playback options include DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM, WMA, and DivX, while quick start of DVD playback is available across the range. New for 2005, the players now offer playback of +R and +RW playback.

The speaker systems come in various designs - including floor-standing and/or wall-mountable units and some with JVC's signature omni-directional surround speaker to provide a radically enhanced sound field.

The TH-S55 and TH-S66 offer 810W RMS of ultra-high power and create smooth and natural PAL progressive pictures using JVC's Digital Direct Progressive Scan technology. Free of interline blur, the sharp, clear pictures dramatically increase the level of on-screen realism. The two systems also allow extremely simple surround sound set-up with a simple handclap.

Picture quality is thanks to JVC's 1-Chip AV Decoder, which integrates a 12-bit/108kHz video D/A converter and an array of high-performance devices on a single chip.

JVC has yet to set a price for the series.
