OS X Mountain Lion downloaded 3 million times in just four days

A massive three million people have downloaded Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion in just four days, making it the manufacturer’s most successful OS X to date.

The operating system is available for £13.99 and introduces Mac users to 200 new features including AirPlay Mirroring, Notification Center and Games Center, providing a user experience more akin to the iPhone or iPad.

“Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice-president of Apple’s Worldwide Marketing.

Mountain Lion is Apple’s ninth version of its OS X and is available as an upgrade to existing Lion and Snow Leopard users.

A further upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion is to be rolled out in the near future that will enable Facebook integration. Users will be able to access and update their Facebook status via the OS’s notification bar as well as integrate their Facebook friends with their Mac’s contacts book.
