The art of throwing a screwed-up piece of paper into a trashcan just got a whole lot easier, thanks to a new moving bin that wheels itself over to where the rubbish is going to land.
The Smart Trashbox is the work of Japanese inventor Modder FRP, who uses Kinect technology to monitor the flight of the rubbish before moving to a position where it can catch it.
The tech whiz designed and constructed the Smart Trashbox from scratch and has even filmed a demo of him showcasing both his basketball and the bin’s skill set.
Of course any Back to the Future fans might recognise the concept from part II of the trilogy.
When Doc Brown discovers Marty has bought the Grays Sports Almanac in order to make some money by betting on sports events when he returns to 1985, Doc bins the book into a moving trashcan with the words: “I didn't invent the time machine to win at gambling. I invented the time machine to travel through time!"
